【いちりん挿し🌸春の色彩・キンギョソウ】
冬の時期のいけばな花材は柳類を
使うことが多いのですが、いかに
も冬らしい花材の中に、一つでも
春っぽいものが入っているだけで
一気に春を先取りしたような雰囲
気に様変わりします。
先週のお稽古で使った中に、まさ
にそんなお花、キンギョソウ（金
魚草）がありました。
キンギョソウはその名のとおり、
スイスイと水の中を泳ぐ金魚のよ
うな見た目をしています。和名は
金魚草ですが、英語では、ドラゴ
ンの口に形容して、snapdragon
という名前で呼ばれています。
いずれにしても、華やかで楽しげ
な印象のお花です。
キンギョソウは、地中海沿岸が原
産の宿根草ですが、夏の蒸し暑さ
に弱いので、日本では一年草とし
て扱われることが多いです。しか
し近年は改良が進み、宿根草とし
て栽培可能な品種も販売されてい
ます。色の種類がとにかく豊富で
どれも色合いが鮮やか。白、赤、
黄、橙、紫、赤紫、ピンク、どの
色もはっきりしいて発色の良い花
色です。
真っ直ぐに伸びて１mくらいに成
長する品種もあるので、花壇でも
背の低いお花たちの後ろで明るい
背景を作ることができます。
本来の花期は４〜６月ごろですが、
四季咲きのものもあるので、市場
では一年中見かける気がします。
キンギョソウとよく間違われるの
がストックという春のお花です。
この二者の区別は、香りがわかり
やすいかと思います。よく見れば
見た目も違うのですが、何より香
りが強いか弱いかで判断できます。
香りの強いのがストック。キンギ
ョソウも甘い香りを持っています
が、ストックに比べるとだいぶ控
えめで、ほんのり香るかな？とい
う程度です。
遠くから見ると似たような風情で
すが、お花を一つ一つ見てみると
形状の違いに気づきます。キンギ
ョソウの形は、まるで金魚鉢のよ
う。その口が開いた雰囲気が花言
葉の由来なのでしょうか、キンギ
ョソウの花言葉は「おしゃべり」
だそうです。
白のキンギョソウには特別な花言
葉があります。それは、「清純な
心」。白のキンギョソウだけを束
ねて花嫁さんのブーケにしても美
しいでしょうね。
今回キンギョソウについて色々調
べていたら、なんとドライフラワ
ーにすることも可能だと知りまし
た。一体どんなドライフラワーに
なってくれるのでしょう？早速黄
色のキンギョソウを部屋に吊り下
げ始めました。どう変化していく
のか、楽しみです。

東京も雪が積もりました。私は寒さが苦手ですが、雪が降ると、子どもか？犬か？というくらい気持ちが上がります（笑）。歳をとったらそうではなくなるのかな？なんて思っていましたが、今回ももれなく気持ちが上がりました。何なんでしょうね（笑）。
【Ichirin Arrangement 🌸 Spring Colors – Snapdragon】
During the winter season, we often incorporate willow branches into Ikebana arrangements to capture the essence of winter. However, just having one spring-like element among the winter materials can instantly transform the atmosphere, giving it a preview of spring. Among the materials used last week, we had just such flowers: Snapdragons, known as “Kingyosou” in Japanese.
True to its name, Kingyosou resembles a goldfish gracefully swimming in water. While it’s called the “Goldfish Plant” in Japanese, in English, it’s referred to as the “Snapdragon,” likening its appearance to a dragon’s mouth.
Regardless, it’s a flower that leaves a vibrant and joyful impression.
Although Kingyosou is a perennial herb native to the Mediterranean coast, it is often treated as an annual in Japan due to its vulnerability to summer heat. However, recent improvements have led to cultivars that can be grown as perennials. The variety of colors is extensive, and each shade is vivid – white, red, yellow, orange, purple, magenta, pink, all displaying excellent coloration.
Some varieties grow straight up to about 1 meter, making them suitable for creating bright backgrounds behind shorter flowers in flower beds.
While its natural flowering period is around April to June, there are also everblooming varieties, making Kingyosou a flower you might encounter in the market throughout the year.
People often mistake Kingyosou for Stock flowers, another spring bloom. The easiest way to differentiate them is by their fragrance. While they may appear similar from a distance, looking closely at each flower reveals differences in their shapes. Kingyosou’s form resembles a goldfish bowl, and the flower language, derived from its open mouth appearance, is said to be “chatter.”

There’s a special flower language for white Kingyosou: “Pure Heart.” It would be beautiful to create a bride’s bouquet using only white Kingyosou.
While researching Kingyosou, I discovered that it can also be dried to make dry flowers. I wonder how it will transform. I’ve already started hanging yellow Kingyosou in my room. I’m looking forward to seeing how it changes.

【Editor’s Note】 Tokyo has also received snowfall. I personally dislike the cold, but when it snows, I can’t help but feel excited, almost like a child or a dog, if you will. I used to wonder if this excitement would fade as I got older, but I doubt it. lol
