【いちりん挿し🌸人気のクリスマスローズ！自分で新種を作れるって本当？！】
柔らかな黄色のクリスマスローズ
が元気に咲きました。昨年買って
一回り大きな鉢に植え替えて大切
に育てていたものです。
大のお花好き友人と一緒に、クリ
スマスローズを育てて売っている
花農家さんへ自転車を漕いで行っ
たのはちょうど一年前のこと。ビ
ニールハウスの中には何百という
鉢のクリスマスローズがびっしり
と並べられていました。
クリスマスローズは株分けができ
るようになるには７、８年も成長
を待たなくてはならないので、タ
ネで増やすのが一般的です。
お花に詳しい友人が説明してくれ
たのですが、クリスマスローズは
同じ株のものが二つとないそう。
え？どういうこと？？と首を傾げ
る私に、彼は詳しく教えてくれま
した。たとえ同じ花粉親と種子親
からできた種子であっても、花の
色や模様、花形などが安定せず、
同じ花にならないというのです。
これは驚きではないですか？！
私にとって、とても新鮮な話でし
た。気に入って買っても同じ花を
増やせないというのは、ある意味
歯痒く思う人もいるかもしれませ
ん。でも、好きな花同士を交配さ
せ、自分好みの新しい花を咲かせ
る喜びを味わえるということも、
とても素敵ではありませんか？
クリスマスローズとは、この種の
ヘレボルスという植物の総称で、
「クリスマスローズ」という呼称
は、正確には、クリスマスの頃に
咲くヘレボルス・ニゲルという白
い個体を示します。
交配が進み、市場に出回るように
なって、いつしかヘレボルスは
「クリスマスローズ」と呼ばれる
ようになってきました。ですが、
一つとして同じものがない、かけ
合わせが無限の組み合わせ、とす
ると、園芸品種名がつけられない
というのがまた面白いところ。
花の少ない冬の花壇やお庭にひっ
そりと下向きに咲くクリスマスロ
ーズ。昔は色も地味めだったそう
ですが、今は、白はもちろん、黄、
ライムグリーン、紫、赤紫、黒、
縁取りだけ色が違うもの、細かい
スポットが入っているもの、２色
のグラデーションになっているも
の、八重咲きのもの、など、様々
なタイプがあります。
花びらのように見えるのはガクな
ので、綺麗にドライフラワーにも
なりますし、押し花にしても魅力
的だそうです（やってみようっと
！）。
ちなみに、鉢植えのクリスマスロ
ーズを買った場合、切り花にする
のは二番花からにしてくださいね。
また、水揚げの仕方も独特なので
すが、４０度のお湯にたっぷりつ
け、そのまま冷めるまで放ってお
きます。これで水揚げ完了。
綺麗なお花は長持ちさせたいです

花言葉は、
「私の不安を和らげて」。
クリスマスローズの香りに不安を
和らげる効果があるとされていま
す。なんとも優しいお花です。

うっかり香水を買ってしまいました。たまたまデパートで嗅いだ香りにピンときて、小さいサイズのものを、、。「うっかり」と書いたのは、子どもを産んで以来基本的に１００％ナチュラルな自然の香りのものしか好んで使っていなかったので、ブランド香水買っても結局無駄にしてしまうからなんです。ですが、たまに魔がさすんです（笑）。今回はこの香りの中の何に惹かれたんだろう。その中に本物の香りがあるとしたら、それが私のツボですね。その植物を知りたいです。
The potted Christmas roses have begun to bloom beautifully.
[Popular Christmas roses! Is it true that you can create a new variety yourself?!]Soft yellow Christmas roses bloomed vigorously. I bought them last year, transplanted them into a larger pot, and carefully nurtured them.
About a year ago, I rode my bike with a close friend who loves flowers to a flower farmer who grows and sells Christmas roses. Inside the greenhouse, hundreds of pots of Christmas roses were tightly arranged.
Christmas roses take 7 to 8 years to mature and be ready for division, so it’s common to propagate them from seeds. My flower-savvy friend explained that even if seeds come from the same pollen and seed parents, the flower’s color, pattern, and shape won’t stabilize, resulting in unique flowers each time.
Isn’t that surprising? For me, it was a refreshing revelation. While it may be frustrating for some not to reproduce the same flower they love, isn’t the joy of crossbreeding and creating a new, personalized flower fascinating?
Christmas rose is a collective term for this type of plant called Helleborus, and the term specifically refers to Helleborus Niger, a white individual that blooms around Christmas.
As crossbreeding progressed and Helleborus became known as “Christmas Rose,” the diversity in combinations became so vast that it became challenging to assign horticultural names.
Christmas roses quietly bloom in winter flower beds and gardens. They used to have subtle colors, but now, there are various types, including white, yellow, lime green, purple, deep purple, black, those with differently colored edges, those with tiny spots, those with a two-color gradient, and double-flowered varieties.
The petal-like structures are sepals, making them suitable for beautiful dried flowers and pressed flowers (let’s try it!).
By the way, if you buy potted Christmas roses, it’s recommended to cut flowers from the second bloom onwards. Also, the process of conditioning is unique; immerse them in plenty of 40-degree water and leave them until it cools. This completes the conditioning process. To make your beautiful flowers last longer, try enjoying Christmas rose cut flowers with this soaking method.
The flower language of Christmas roses is “Alleviate my anxiety.” It is said that the fragrance of Christmas roses has a calming effect. What a gentle flower.
[Editor’s Note] I accidentally bought perfume. I was drawn to the scent I happened to smell at the department store and ended up buying a small size. I wrote “accidentally” because since having children, I’ve only preferred 100% natural fragrances, so buying brand perfumes would ultimately be a waste for me. However, sometimes the temptation strikes (laughs). I wonder what attracted me to this scent among others. If there is a genuine aroma in it, that’s what appeals to me.
